The Deaf Man still remembers where he was when Nevermind came blasting through the radio in the fall of 1991, with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” leading the way. Kurt Cobain said his aim for Nevermind was to sound like “The Knack and The Bay City Rollers getting molested by Black Flag and Black Sabbath.” On that count, the album succeeds, combining ferocious power chords with pop hooks for a record that is as fresh today as when it bumped Michael Jackson’s Dangerous off the top spot of the Billboard charts.
